The Beast From The East

It is very important that we feed birds all year round but in particular, when the weather gets very cold. Birds have little food to choose from and little time to forage in this weather. This is where we come in. So make sure you are well stocked up and look after the little guys this week.

What do I feed the birds?

Small birds need to keep their calorie intake up to keep them healthy and warm. Some great food to give birds include peanuts, oats, hulled sunflower seeds, oranges cut and dried pumpkin seeds. Just make sure you don't leave out whole nuts so the birds won't choke on them. However, if you are unsure about what you are giving them, we can help.

The Pavilion Garden Centre

At The Pavilion Garden Centre we have plenty of food and feeder options to ensure your little visitors are happy to call by your garden each day. A good quality seed mix, as you will see below, would be a good option for birds to keep them healthy and happy.

Bird food and water

As well as good quality food, make sure you leave out some water for the birds too. Providing the two together means that the birds don't have to go far to find water. Replenishing this also means that the water they drink is clean and fresh.

Bird feeders

Make sure you keep your feeders clean to prevent any disease. This can easily happen with so many birds visiting each day. When the weather is bad, the food can also get affected and this isn't good for their health.

It is important to keep your bird feeders high and away from preying animals like cats. Once you start feeding the birds, they will continue to come back. So make sure you keep your them stocked up regularly.

Having birds tweeting around your garden each day is fantastic. Watching them feed, drink and hearing them sing is such a pleasant sight to see. This is especially true when the kids are around! They will be fascinated.

If you have any questions, don't hesitate to pop into The Pavilion Garden Centre, email us on info@thepavilion.ie or call us on (021) 488 8134. We would be happy to help.
