Carpinus betulus

Carpinus Betulus make excellent screens, hedges, and windbreak trees when planted in groups around big buildings. The European hornbeam has attractive slate-gray smooth to fluted bark and richly textured leaves. In the fall, the dark green leaves become a lovely golden, and the bark and buds are beautiful in the winter.
