Pieris is a neat, rounded, evergreen shrub, grown for its early display of spring flowers. It’s perfect for growing in a shrub border. It bears lovely bronze foliage which matures to dark green and bears white blooms. The mass of white flowers gives Pieris its common name of Lily of the Valley.

Pieris is a great shrub - it is evergreen, with several months of interest starting with the colourful red Spring growth followed by its beautiful, white flowers. The new red growth appears in late February and throughout March when Pieris is at its brightest, followed by beautiful flowers appearing in April and early May. Pieris requires no maintenance, and the only requirement is to be planted in acid soil or ericaceous compost. If feeding, use an ericaceous feed only.

Pieris look good planted with other acid loving shrubs such as Rhododendrons and Camellia, to create a low maintenance shrub border.

Pieris does not require regular pruning. Pieris can be pruned if needed to just tidy up any spindly branches or spent flowers. It can be pruned in late Spring after flowering.  Although fully hardy, Pieris will be happiest in a position that is out of the cold winds of winter.
