Mallow Festival - Nature's Kitchen

Mallow Festival - Nature's Kitchen

Designed by: Gennaro Scognamiglio, Horticulturalist, The Pavilion

A garden of purpose, beauty and biodiversity. This thoughtfully curated garden is a celebration of function, education and biodiversity, wrapped in an aesthetically pleasing planting scheme. Designed to blend beauty with purpose, it invites visitors to slow down and reconnect with the natural world around them.

A richly woven tapestry of herbs such as thyme, sage, rosemary and parsley, offer a sensory experience, releasing their delicate aromas with the lightest touch. Among them, edible plants such as leafy greens, soft fruits and the distinctive mountain pepper of the Tasmanian Drimys lanceolata lend colour, texture and flavour to the landscape. Fruit trees rise throughout the space like seasonal storytellers, offering a lesson in how food grows and changes throughout the year.

Nestled within the garden is a round teak table and two chairs, an invitation to pause and take in the tranquil surroundings. This quiet nook is framed by productive raised beds and pollinator-friendly planting, including sedum and the unusual Acanthus mollis. The garden has been conceived not only for human enjoyment but as a sanctuary for wildlife, with considered additions such as birdhouses and a rainwater collection system supporting ecological balance and sustainability.

From the lush foliage of hostas to the graceful silhouettes of deciduous birch trees, every detail contributes to the purpose and natural beauty of the space. This is a place where families and friends can gather, discover and grow together in a shared celebration of biodiversity and the quiet power of nature.
