Spring flowering bulbs are a great way to add colour to your garden. There are a wide range of different flowers to choose from offering different colours, textures and heights. A great advantage of many spring flowering bulbs is that once you plant them, they will return year after year.
FLOWER BULBS, OUR NATURE
Kapiteyn
We source our summer flowering bulbs from Kapiteyn, a renowned Dutch company with 115 years of experience in the cultivation and breeding industry. As a 4th generation, family-run business, Kapiteyn is committed to providing the highest quality bulbs and seeds, making them a trusted supplier for us.
Plant spring flowering bulbs in autumn, typically September to November.
Plant bulbs at about 15cm below the surface, in well-draining soil. Position pointy end up. Water after planting to encourage growth.
Yes, containers work well. Use well-draining soil, follow depth guidelines, and ensure pots can withstand winter.
Most spring bulbs thrive in full sun to part shade, ensuring adequate sunlight for proper growth and vibrant blooms.
The bulb package should tell you how deep and wide to plant bulbs. If you’ve lost your package, follow the 3×3 rule. Plant bulbs three times as deep as their height and keep 3x the diameter of the bulb between plantings.
The earlier you can plant bulbs in autumn, the better. Bulbs need time to establish strong root systems before the winter frosts set in. Don't forget to water newly planted bulbs — it helps get the roots going! Once the cold arrives, bulbs enter a new cycle to prepare for spring blooming.
So long as the soil drains well, bulbs will thrive. Which means you should avoid planting them in hollows or low spots or under drain spouts, where water collects or puddles. In soggy soil, most bulbs will rot.
