Probably the most well known of the white stemmed birches, renowned for its startlingly white bark. In contrast to the breezy, semi-transparent Silver birch, Betula utilis var. 'jacquemontii' has a more static, formal, upright habit with a denser crown --ideal for use as a specimen tree for a more formal garden. Its dark green leaves contrast beautifully with the white bark in summer and turn rich golden tones in autumn. Yellow catkins adorn branches in spring. The tree is equally effective planted as a single specimen or in groups, as a standard or multi-stem. 3-4m tall at 10 years. Hardy. Prefers moist, well-drained soil. A shallow rooting tree.
