Strelitzia nicolai – Bird of Paradise
Bring a tropical feel to your conservatory with Strelitzia nicolai, also known as the Bird of Paradise. Its large green leaves and upright growth make it a fantastic statement plant for conservatories, sunrooms and bright interiors.
At approximately 90cm in height, it is already an impressive feature plant and looks particularly striking when paired with a decorative planter.
Step-by-Step Care Guide
- Light – Position in a bright area with plenty of natural light. A little direct sunlight is beneficial.
- Water – Water when the top few centimetres of soil begin to dry. Avoid leaving the roots sitting in water.
- Repot with Sybotanica Calathea & Maranta Mix – providing a good balance of moisture, drainage and air around the roots.
- Feed – The Sybotanica mix contains approximately 180 days of nutrients, so additional feeding is generally not required immediately after repotting. After this, introduce a suitable houseplant fertiliser during the growing season.
- Keep Leaves Clean – Wipe the large leaves occasionally to remove dust and rotate the plant regularly to encourage balanced growth.
